CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
1. Come in to the band room in a calm manner.
2. Get your instruments out it's case, put your music/band book on your
stand, put your backpakcs under your chair, sit down. 2 min to play first
note for participation grade.
3. It is your job, responsibility, duty, and part of your grade to clean your instrument after every time that you use it. Every day, it is your responsibility to put away your instrument in your assigned class period locker.
4. Please tell me of any issues with your instrument that arise so that I may assist you.
Restrooms
1. First 10 and last 10 minutes of class, students are not allowed to go to the restrooms.
2. Students must get permission and the pass from Mr. Mata before they leave the classroom.
3. Students that take an excessive amount of time in the restoom will lose their restroom privilege for the
9 weeks.
4. When returning place Mr. Mata's pass in designated area.
Asking Questions
1. Students need to raise their hand to ask a question. Band can be a filled with lots of sound so
please raise your hand.
2. No questions while we are performing as a group. Wait until the group has stopped to ask.
This is how the professionals do it.
3. Ask questions in a full voice.
Instrument
1. Students may keep their instruments in their assigned band period locker. They may come in to the
band room before the start of the school day and need to pick it up every day before they go home. To
maintain instrument safety lockers will be locked up and only opened for their assigned period.
2. Students must take their instruments home every day and practice for 30 minutes.
3. Be responsible!!! Take care of your instrument at all times. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR INSTRUMENTS AND PROPERTY.
Home Work
1. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PRACTICE AT HOME EVERY DAY. THIS IS TO HELP YOU, REMEMBER
HOW TO HOLD, ASSEMBLE, READ MUSIC, BREATH AND PLAY.
2. STUDENTS WILL BE ASSIGNED LINES TO PLAY IN CLASS FROM THEIR BAND BOOK.
Test
1. Students will have playing test. Students must perform with CHARACTERISTIC INSTRUMENT TONE,
TECHNIQUE, and tempo markings. Test are live or via smartmusic.com.
2. Students will be placed in chair order based on their test score.
Practices
1. Students must attend their assigned sectional or group practices in order to perform in school
concerts and participate in any field trips. The schedule will be put on our website under calendar.
2. Honor your commitments!!! If you are in another activity you must do your part to honor your
commitments. Talk to your coaches, sponsors, and band director to work out any conflicts in
advanc.
3. Performances must be attended in order to perform in off campus band field trips.
Fundraisers
1. Student of the week award is for one person from band that has done something incredible in band
such as playing all of their lines in smartmusic or essential elements before anyone else, great
2. One Most Valuable Player award per grade level will be given at the end of the school year the student
that has a 1st division rating in solo and ensemble, chaired in an all-region band, completed fundraiser,
and performed in all concerts.
